The Greatest Convention next week

Bahrain Comic Con 2019 is here

One of the biggest and most eagerly awaited events is finally opening next week. Exceeding organizers expectations in 2018, the first edition attracted 15,672 attendees and Bahrain Comic Con 2019 aims to bring forth an even bigger pop culture convention, which will excite visitors with a plethora of amazing activities and programmes for 2 days- from March 8 till March 9. A product of Dallah Promotions, the exciting entertainment expo comes from the dedication and commitment of two brothers ‘Salman and Khalid Bukhari’ whose aim was to put Bahrain on the map. After having conducted many successful events before taking up the comic con project, which includes car launches like Nissan Micra, musical concerts with big names like Shaggy, Tyga, and Paul Van Dyk, even comedy shows with the laugher king ‘Maz Jobrani,’ the duo felt it was time to push the envelope further and bring an international event to Bahrain.

Speaking to Weekender, Dallah Promotions Founder and Partner ‘Salman Bukhari’ said Bahrain Comic Con is a 10-year plan and shared how he and his brother started working on the project two and a half years before actually launching it. “Looking at the amazing efforts of Animania and IGN who had pushed for the pop culture in the region, it opened our eyes to bring a comic con to Bahrain. It took us that much time to convince studios, distributors and exhibitors to support Bahrain as a comic con destination.”

Comic Con is an international event that was first held in San Diego, California in 1970. Since then it has evolved into an annual event held in popular cities around the world. This year as well Comic Con is heading to Bahrain and will include various categories and activities from the world of entertainment, and will host local and international celebrity guests.

2018 was the humble beginnings for the mega convention on the island with Marvel coming onboard and allowing Dallah to make use of their logo. Bahrain was also the first comic con in the MENA region to have gotten a major shout out from the ‘Ready Player One’ team last year. Aside from that, they managed to get an exhibit from WWE, with Daniel Bryan as one of the celebrity guests.

This year, Dallah has taken things up a notch as fans of the Marvel Universe are definitely in for a treat as Celebrity Korean-French actress Pom Klementieff who portrayed the Marvel Comics character Mantis will also be present this year with actress Alison Sudol who plays Queenie Goldstein in Fantastic Beasts. They will be joined by David Harbour, best known for his role as Jim Hopper in the Netflix science fiction horror series Stranger Things, and will be portraying Hellboy, in the highly anticipated movie in April 2019!

Aside from hosting many of the major brands and companies from last year, new faces and international exhibitors, artists and gamers will be gracing the scene this year! The family fun weekend will host many activities, and people will get a chance to meet their favourite celebrities. From Hollywood Movie Studios to International Gaming Companies, Bahrain Comic Con will be jam-packed with content that will excite attendees from all around the world. The event will showcase films, television, video games, science fiction, comic books, and similar popular arts. It will also support the local gaming industry with many exhibitors and presentations.

“With the intention of raising the bar as the years proceed, Dallah hopes their efforts and resounding crowd reception welcomes large collaborations that can cohesively work toward placing Bahrain on a large scale global podium. Big things come in small packages and the tiny island of Bahrain is no exception,” Salman concluded.

The Bahrain Comic Con is expected to attract 20,000 visitors this year and will take place at the Bahrain International Circuit. For more information, go to www.bahraincomiccon.com
