For those who have a strong interest in discovering the historical significance of this island, an exciting walk that will take you around some of the most defining locations that have shaped the stance of Bahrain is coming up soon.
On the occasion of International Day for Sites and Monuments (World Heritage Day), the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities and Bahrain - ICOMOS is going to organize an 8km walkathon to a number of archaeological sites north of Bahrain starting from the site of Qal’at Al-Bahrain and ending at the temple of Barbar.
The starting point will be the Qal’at Al-Bahrain site, passing through the farms surrounding the site, Hilla Islamic Archeological site, Al Hajer Archeological site, Shakhoura Burial Mounds and the site of the Barbar temples. Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquity will be providing transportation from the Temple of Barbar site to Qal’at Al-Bahrain site museum while providing light meals during the event. “There are so many aspects of Bahrain that are still waiting to be explored. I am a culture & history enthusiast, and am really excited about this opportunity to glimpse into the wonders of this island,” Martha Reeds, a long-term resident of Bahrain shared with Weekender.
