  • Often called the ‘king of instruments’, the iconic sound of this string instrument is now representative of traditional Arab music.
  • Oud means ‘twig’ or ‘flexible rod’, it is considered to be the predecessor of the guitar.
  • Its presence can be traced back to the 2nd and 1st centuries BC.
  • Oud is referred to in the Bible as an instrument derived from the lifeless body of Lamak, a direct descendant of Caine.
  • The instrument is built with 11 strings, 10 of them paired together, and the 11th one standing alone to provide the lowest note, resulting in the melodic metronome is famous for.
